On Monday, July 6, 2026, at approximately 2:13 a.m., Tulsa Police Officers were dispatched to a suspicious activity call regarding a large gathering at Hicks Park. While responding, the call was upgraded to a shooting. When we arrived, officers found two male victims in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. ▪️ [redacted] was pronounced deceased on the scene ▪️ A 16-year-[redacted] was located with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed to the hospital in critical condition Homicide Detectives determined the incident started earlier in the night at a party hosted inside the Bowman Event Center at 2909 S. Sheridan Rd. After that gathering broke up, a large group migrated to Hicks Park. While at the park, individuals began shooting fireworks at one another. [redacted] and the 16-year-old approached a group to confront them about shooting fireworks in their direction, which quickly escalated into a physical disturbance and gunfire. Our Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) analysts immediately mobilized to track down surveillance footage from all the locations. The RTIC Analyst performed phenomenal work locating video that captured the shooting, identifying the getaway vehicle as a black 2023 Chevy Trailblazer, and isolating a primary shooter. Detectives used this information to identify the primary [redacted] as a 16-year-[redacted], who was seen in the shooting footage. [redacted] was the driver of the getaway vehicle A Crime Gun Unit (CGU) Detective successfully located the 16-year-old's group at a home in the 8800 block of E. 91st Pl. While teams were moving into positions, several individuals, including [redacted], exited the home, entered a Cadillac, and left the area. RTIC quickly identified the Cadillac, placing it on a hotlist in Flock to alert mobile units. Our Special Operations Team (SOT) rapidly deployed to execute a Creek Nation search warrant at the 16-year-[redacted]’s residence. While he was not inside at that time, a physical search of his bedroom recovered the exact black shirt with white artwork worn during the murder, linking him directly to the scene. At approximately 10:00 p.m., the Warrants Unit, a K-9 Officer, and the Broken Arrow Police Department (BAPD) successfully executed a mobile stop on the Cadillac. The 16-year-[redacted] was located inside the [redacted] fled on foot from officers but was quickly caught after a short pursuit. He initially refused to identify himself to officers but was positively confirmed. Simultaneously, Warrants tracked [redacted], [redacted] exited the Cadillac earlier in the evening. BAPD located Smith hiding in the backseat of a separate tan Chevy Impala parked at Aspen Creek Park at 320 S. Oak Ave. in Broken Arrow. Smith had texted two female acquaintances to pick him up at the park. During a search of the vehicle, an extended pistol magazine was found in Smith's front pocket, and a black Glock .40 caliber pistol with a matching extended magazine was recovered directly hidden under the seat where he was sitting. Since the primary suspects involved hold tribal membership, initial bookings have been coordinated alongside federal and tribal authorities: ▪️ The 16-year-[redacted] has been processed into the Tulsa Juvenile Detention Justice Center facing tribal Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department (Creek) Nation charges for First Degree Felony Murder and Shooting With Intent To Kill. ▪️ [redacted], who has a prior federal conviction for Robbery with a Firearm, was booked under Creek jurisdiction for Accessory to Murder in the Second Degree and Possession of a Firearm AFCF (After Former Conviction of a Felony).
